Rating the Pepsi NFL Anthems

If you’ve watched the NFL this season then you’ve probably seen the advertisements for the Pepsi NFL Anthems. If you’re unfamiliar — and chances are you’ve passed on listening to these seven “songs” — the NFL and Pepsi worked with seven platinum-selling artists to create seven “anthems” for the artist’s favorite team. But don’t worry, I took the time to listen to all seven tracks so I could rank them from worst to first. If you wanna give the tracks a listen for yourself, you can find them all here.

Enough is enough, Ray Lewis

I would call myself a supporter of Ray Lewis. Not a fan – sports fandom thankfully allows for shades of gray – but a supporter. But as Ray Lewis and the Baltimore Ravens defeated the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium to continue their unlikely trip to Super Bowl XLVII on Sunday, I didn’t know how to feel supporting Ray Lewis’ very public emotional roller coaster.

I wasn’t the only one. The sentiment among the friends I watched the game with was universal: “I like Ray Lewis, but this is just getting to be ridiculous.”

What’s in a nickname?: Matt Ryan officially turns into ‘Matty Ice’

After some research, I determined there are only 10 or so NFL players with real, deserving nicknames these days. I say real, as in they weren’t given to them by themselves (I’m looking at you, Terrell ‘T-Sizzle’ Suggs) and they aren’t just initials or shortened version of their own names (the RG3s and A-Rods of the world). And in deserving, I mean I’m not calling Devin Hester the Windy City Flyer any more because he no longer files down the field.
