Bill Simmons and Antoine Walker obviously listen to the Poor Scholars Podcast

BY PAT FLYNN

Scott and I have already captured the hearts and minds of America via our podcasts. It was merely confirmed this week as Bill Simmons hosted a number of former and current NBA stars on his Grantland Podcast from Houston, Texas.

Simmons sat down with Antoine Walker and they spoke about the secret workouts leading up to Michael Jordan’s comeback to the Wizards. Scott and I touched on this in our podcast on Friday, saying how arranging these workouts with present-day NBA stars would be impossible to do in secrecy like he did.

MTV Buckwild cast member arrested, all about that Blue Magic

You knew an arrest was inevitable for this cast of idiots on MTV’s new hit show Buckwild.

You’d think it would’ve been for something harmless, you know, like indecent exposure for hooking up with your sister in a Walmart parking lot. (AKA a West Virginia parking ticket)

Making Lady Pyramids with Derek Jeter: Chapter 894: Hannah Davis

This is an excerpt from Chapter 894 of a fictional book I’m not actually going to write about Derek Jeter’s love life. Nobody in the history of history has ever put in work like this guy. Hannah Davis and Jeter have been romantically linked. So I took some liberties and assumed how the courtship went.

Identity Thief: Too sore a subject to be funny

BY PAT FLYNN

[Steps on soap box]

As someone who got their identity stolen less than a month ago, I hate everything about this movie and I’ve never seen it.

Melissa McCarthy, a talented comedic actress, runs up Jason Bateman’s credit cards and he drives from Denver to Florida to nab her and clear his name.

At which point, this thing turns into every road trip comedy ever made and you know there will be some bond they find at the end or he’ll see why she was a thief and ultimately she’ll get away with it and everyone will be happy. This won’t satisfy me. I want death.

National Signing Day quick hitters

After an hour of ESPNU’s coverage of National Signing Day I feel like I need a shower.

It’s like that feeling after you eat McDonalds or smoke a pack of cigarettes.

Watching the signing day ceremonies generally makes for enough awkward and cringe-worthy moments that I just find myself staring with open-mouthed awe at the TV or making a face like I’m bracing for impact. It’s that bad and I watch ever year. I love college football too much even though it is a business where everyone gets paid handsomely except for the people who take all of the physical risk and do all of the actual work. But besides that, it’s cool.

If you’re anything like me and you’re completely nocturnal, you surely have an appreciation for late night television programming.

Here are some shows or movies you don’t want to miss if you’re up after midnight tonight.

12 a.m. — MTV, Buckwild — Best new bad show on television. This show may as well be called “If The Girls on 16 & Pregnant Didn’t Get Pregnant This is Who They Would Be.”

The wonderful people at MTV go ahead and sink the hook in with a quick half hour of redneck Real World and follow it up with one more hour. It really is the perfect amount of time for this show at this time of night. You’re already wondering what you’re doing up and there are going to be like nine times where you question why you’re watching this and what kind of person you are for it. But you will persevere. And by the time that hour and a half ends you’ll have your mind blown that you watched that whole thing and equally mind blown that there are people like this.

Brand management with Harrison Barnes

BY PAT FLYNN

Last year at North Carolina, Harrison Barnes told The Atlantic that he came back to school for his sophomore year to help build his brand. The statement didn’t go over so well with the general public. But now, as a pro, the rookie has developed a new strategy.

Just dunk the living hell out of the basketball.

Blake Griffin implemented this strategy too and won over America, and Kia.

Here was Barnes’ first — and I think best — highlight dunk of his young career.

Two more violent flushes on oversized white men after the jump

Rick Ross: Real or Fake shooting?

It was reported Monday that Rick Ross was shot at and crashed his Rolls Royce in downtown Fort Lauderdale early that morning.

There’s nothing that makes a rapper more street certified than surviving a shooting. Rick Ross, a former prison guard, and a guy that has proven that he can rap tough, has been legitimately called out countless times for not really having lived the life, or so to speak.

The Senior Bowl: Where style is unleashed

Lets all start calling the Senior Bowl what it really is: The Under Armour Mirrored Visor Bowl.

Football players take a tremendous amount of pride in their on-field appearance. Yes, football players at big-time BCS programs have basically unlimited supplies of cleats, gloves, wristbands, Under Armour/Nike Drifits…whatever they would need x 10. But a quick look at what they don’t get — that they desperately want — is fairly obvious when watching the Senior Bowl.
