This Week in History

Maybe you'll learn something today.

Maybe you’ll learn something today.

I’ve always had a strange obsession with history and famous dates. Also, being as educated in random facts as I am, it is my responsibility to freely share some of my scholarship with the public. I’ve chosen a few random events that stood out and now you’re forced to read them. Continue reading

Short film: Bear

BY MAX ROBSON

Although you’ve seen him in many big named movies, not many people will recognize Nash Edgerton… An Australian stuntman and film director.

As a stuntman, Nash has appeared in The Matrix trilogy, The Thin Red Line, Superman Returns and Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones as well as Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. As a film director, he crafted Bear, this little flick about a man who pretends to forget his girlfriend’s birthday.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I do. Cheers, happy Friday, we made it to the weekend!

For those who don’t know… I’m a Niner fan. I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and I bleed gold (unless it’s baseball season, when I bleed orange). With the San Francisco Forty Niners going to their sixth Super Bowl on Sunday, this week’s Instagram Weekly Top Ten was a no-brainer: #49ers.

Not many people were aware that while we were all watching football and eating burritos, the Maverick’s Invitational big wave surf contest was going on in Half Moon Bay, CA. If you’re unfamiliar, these waves are known to top out at nearly 80 feet and have claimed the lives of some of the world’s greatest surfers.

This week, I’ve decided to post the top ten photos tagged #MavsInvitational that really show off the size of these monsters. Got one that’s better? Tweet us @poorscholars.

We all witnessed the BCS Championship last week… so we’re all aware of two things: The Crimson Tide rolled through Notre Dame and AJ McCarron’s girlfriend is a dignified smokeshow.

While no one is going to argue Brent Musburger about Miss Alabama, a computer system used to determine the BCS standings still ranks the Irish at the top.
