The Sweet 16 and Elite 8 are finished, so Poor Scholars checked back on the Buckets Pool to see which team scored the most points over the weekend. Players that are italicized are still playing in the Final Four this weekend in Atlanta.
1. Troy: 129 points
Pick 4: DeShaun Thomas, Ohio State (43 points)
Pick 13: Russ Smith, Louisville (54 points)
Pick 20: Jeff Withey, Kansas (12 points)
Pick 29: Cleanthony Early, Wichita State (20 points)
DeShaun Thomas and Russ Smith were big scorers for Troy while Cleanthony Early gave a solid scoring boost while remaining in the tournament. With Russ Smith remaining, Troy is the definite favorite.
2. Danny: 124 points
Pick 5: Seth Curry, Duke (41 points)
Pick 12: Mason Plumlee, Duke (31 points)
Pick 21: Vander Blue, Marquette (28 points)
Pick 28: CJ Fair, Syracuse (24 points)
Danny’s picks all advanced to the Elite 8, but only C.J. Fair remains, leaving Danny likely to finish behind Troy.
3. Eli: 91 points
Pick 8: Trey Burke, Michigan (38 points)
Pick 9: Shane Larkin, Miami (14 points)
Pick 24: Mark Lyons, Arizona (23 points)
Pick 25: Ryan Kelly, Duke (16 points)
Eli had solid contributions across the board, but Trey Burke is going to have to go off for Eli to have a shot at the win.
4. Scott: 75 points
Pick 7: Gorgui Dieng, Louisville (24 points)
Pick 10: Ramon Galloway, LaSalle (11 points)
Pick 23: Soloman Hill, Arizona (16 points)
Pick 26: Mike Rosario, Florida (24 points)
Only Gorgui Dieng remains as Ramon Galloway and Soloman Hill both bowed out earlier than Scott would have hoped.
5. Rambo: 68 points
Pick 3: Victor Oladipo, Indiana (16 points)
Pick 14: Ben McLemore, Kansas (20 points)
Pick 19: Christian Watford, Indiana (13 points)
Pick 30: Rasheed Sulaimon, Duke (19 points)
Rambo got hit hard by bad losses and the stinging upset of his beloved Hoosiers. Rambo has no players remaining.
5. Alex: 68 points
Pick 6: Aaron Craft, Ohio State (22 points)
Pick 11: Keith Appling, Michigan State (16 points)
Pick 22: Travis Releford, Kansas (16 points)
Pick 27: Sherwood Brown, Florida Gulf Coast (14 points)
Alex also has nobody remaning as Aaron Craft fell short of Final Four glory.
7. Pat: 60 points
Pick 2: Cody Zeller, Indiana (10 points)
Pick 15: Kenny Boynton, Florida (20 points)
Pick 18: Tim Hardaway Jr., Michigan (19 points)
Pick 31: Kenny Kadji, Miami (11 points)
Pat’s team faltered after No. 2 overall pick Cody Zeller flamed out early.
8. Raj: 46 points
Pick 1: Peyton Siva, Louisville (20 points)
Pick 16: Erik Murphy, Florida (4 points)
Pick 17: Durand Scott, Miami (10 points)
Pick 32: Damyean Dotson, Oregon (12 points)
Raj had the No. 1 pick, but Peyton Siva hasn’t helped much, and Erik Murphy scored 0 points in 22 minutes in the loss to Michigan. Sorry, Raj. Better luck next year!
