If you’re anything like me and you’re completely nocturnal, you surely have an appreciation for late night television programming.
Here are some shows or movies you don’t want to miss if you’re up after midnight tonight.
12 a.m. — MTV, Buckwild — Best new bad show on television. This show may as well be called “If The Girls on 16 & Pregnant Didn’t Get Pregnant This is Who They Would Be.”
The wonderful people at MTV go ahead and sink the hook in with a quick half hour of redneck Real World and follow it up with one more hour. It really is the perfect amount of time for this show at this time of night. You’re already wondering what you’re doing up and there are going to be like nine times where you question why you’re watching this and what kind of person you are for it. But you will persevere. And by the time that hour and a half ends you’ll have your mind blown that you watched that whole thing and equally mind blown that there are people like this.
12 a.m. – 2:15 — HBO, Boogie Nights — For those of you with premium cable, get ready to settle in with Mark Wahlberg and Burt Reynolds. Nobody in their right mind turns this gem off, even if you have to be up at 2:30 a.m. for something (which you don’t, unless you have a baby). Watching Dirk Diggler’s life spiral out of control is a favorite. I’m still very much on the lookout for that album he recorded.
2 a.m. — Spike, Entourage — If you want the no cursing and no nudity Entourage check out Spike to watch the episode where Eric tries to cover up a lie he told to that crazy chick Ashley. Never understood the appeal of that girl. She reminded me of an Eastern European gymnast — but nourished. I think it was the one girl they could find that Eric was taller than, so they just went with it.
2:20 a.m. — Cinemax, Life — If you sign on for this one, you’re going to hear a “Fuck Sleep” chant start in your head. It’s normal, just go with it. Great movie though. Somehow underrated as hell. AIN’T NOBODY TOUCHIN’ MY CORN BREAD!
2 a.m. — 7 a.m. — MTV, True Life — Five straight MTV True Life shows. I get sucked into these things every time even if I’m completely bored by the topic. You always come away from these feeling really good about who you are or really bad about yourself because you were not sympathetic to people like that until you saw this show. True Life: I’m Addicted to Porn was the greatest one of all time. There isn’t even a second.
